The 10 Fruits and Vegetables Most Contaminated By Pesticides
Anti-germinants, fungicides, pesticides, insecticides… the list is long for a product for everyday and inexpensive consumption. A French person eats an average of 30 kg of potatoes per year, to which must be added 25 kg in the form of processed products. Yet it is one of the 10 vegetables that contains the most pesticides
9. Peppers
Anyone who has tried growing peppers knows that they fall prey to every pest in the garden. So, to produce it in industrial quantities, we use the simplest solution by treating this vegetable. Avoid buying peppers in stores as 2/3 of them contain significant pesticide residues .
8. Tomatoes
Do you agree with me if I say that the tomatoes that you find in stores today have no taste? If you look at Spanish tomatoes besides being rarely good, they are scary. There are frequently residues of carbendazim, chlorothalonil, iprodione or procymidone . It is therefore strongly recommended to give preference to organic French tomatoes or, even better, to go to a producer because this is the best way to find real good tomatoes.
7. Celery
Celery is recommended for a healthy, low-calorie diet. But there is a "small" problem, this vegetable would contain no less than 60 different pesticide residues. Buy it organic or from a trusted producer or eat it no more!
6. Grapes
To know that grapes are loaded with pesticides, there is no need for studies or reports. Think of all the health problems of vineyard workers and inhabitants of wine regions (all types of cancer, asthma and other respiratory problems, burnt skin, infertility, etc.). To reinforce what has just been said, know that according to studies 80% of production is contaminated and that pesticides are concentrated on the skin of the fruits and as long as the grapes do not do not peel, it is even more harmful.
5. Pears
Studies show that the number of pesticides used on pears has increased dramatically over the past 5 years. In 2010, only traces of products harmful to health were found on pears. In 2015, 5 to 6 different fungicides or insecticides were present on pears.
4. Apples
Apples are particularly attacked by worms and insects. So to remedy it, we treat it to death by making this fruit one of the most treated in France. Take Limousin, for example, a large apple producing region. There are so many pesticides in the air during treatment times that doctors advise children not to go outside. In addition, in this region, doctors noticed a very sharp increase in neurological diseases.
Peaches and nectarines undergo the same treatments as apples or more. We hear less about it compared to apples because we eat less. But be aware that out of all the samples studied, 73% of peaches and nectarines exceeded the limits recommended by European standards.
2. Spinach
Eat spinach to be strong like Popeye! But be very careful where you buy it. Depending on the production, there are between 7 and 16 harmful products , including a powerful neurotoxicant: permethrin. This is a shame because it is one of the most iron-rich and healthy vegetables.
1. Strawberries
I'm sorry to say that this delicious fruit is the unfortunate winner of this sad list. They contain more than 7 pesticides on average in the samples checked. In addition, strawberries are said to be the fruit most permeable to pesticides. They absorb them and keep them even after picking and a good rinse. We must therefore find a good producer because it would be such a shame to deprive yourself of this fruit!
In contrast to this classification, the least contaminated fruits and vegetables would be : onions; the lawyers ; sweet corn; cauliflowers; broccoli; asparagus ; peas; kiwis; cabbage and eggplant
